AP® Calculus

During this AP® Calculus AB APSI, you’ll explore the course framework, the exam, and the new AP® resources that will help you plan and focus instruction—and give you feedback throughout the year on the areas where individual students need additional focus. You’ll also learn about completing the digital activation process at the start of the school year that will give you immediate access to the new resources and will help ensure that your students can register for AP® Exams by the new fall deadlines. By attending this APSI, you’ll gain deeper insight into the following key takeaways, among several others: Understand the Course; Plan the Course; Teach the Course; Assess Student Progress; and Engage as a Member of the AP® Community. In addition, specific attention will be paid to the following AP® Classroom resources: unit guides, personal progress checks, AP® teacher community, and the AP® question bank.

HOWARD ALCOSSER

Howard Alcosser has earned a M.A. and B.A. in Mathematics and has taught all levels of high school mathematics for 38 years. He has taught AP® Calculus AB and BC and IB Higher Level Math at Diamond Bar High School in Diamond Bar, California for 32 years where he has been the architect of the AP® Calculus program that was designated "Best in the World" in 2005 and "Best in the Nation" in 2007 by the College Board in their Report to the Nation and California's Best by the Siemens Foundation in 2008. Howard was named by the College Board® in 2006 as one of 20 Exemplary AP® Teachers in the Western Region.

Howard has been an AP® Calculus Reader for over 16 years and has led workshops as a College Board® Endorsed Consultant in Hawai‘i, Palo Alto, Bellevue, Las Vegas, Tacoma, Long Beach, Salt Lake City, San Diego, Los Angeles, Denver, Chicago, Atlanta, Sacramento, Minneapolis, Hollywood, Riverside, Spokane, Birmingham, and San Antonio. He has also presented at AP® Annual Conferences in Washington D.C., Las Vegas, and San Antonio, and for the California Mathematics Council at Asilomar and in Palm Springs, California as well as the NCTM Conference in Hartford, Connecticut.

Howard also has a website that includes AP® Calculus free response solutions and helps teachers and students with mathematics questions called "Ask Mister Calculus" (http://www.askmrcalculus.com)
